Festival of Leaves – Week 10

Hi,
At the beginning of this week I went out again with my camera to see what had happened to the leaves since my visit last week and I found not a lot of leaves left on some trees while other still retained their leaves. But it is December here in Somerset and not a time to be showing autumn leaves. Winter has begun and so…..
SONY DSC
…..there should’t be too many leaves left to see. But as I said in the beginning there are some trees that have leaves left.
SONY DSC
I’m afraid this is going to be the last post under the heading of Festival Leaves as they are now getting in short supply, at least they are supposed to be.
SONY DSC
Not that you would think so looking up in those trees.
SONY DSC
Does that picture look winterish? I suppose you could imagine frost on the branches. Actually it was rather a cloudy day, chilly but no frost. Well I guess it time to say goodbye to the leaves. There is rather a lot of them on the ground now.
SONY DSC
And a few left up there.SONY DSC
Farewell leaves, you have done your duty to the tree that bore you. You have helped to feed and nourish her and now she must sleep through the coming months of cold and darkness.

Festival of Leaves – Week 9

Hi

It is a somewhat dark afternoon here in Somerset on the 25th November. I see that there is still some leaves left.
SONY DSC
Even though it is a somewhat dull afternoon there is still some colour left.
SONY DSC
Some trees are quite bare while others have green and yellow leaves
SONY DSC
While others just have brown.
SONY DSC
Providing some colour against the green background. But I suppose we shouldn’t expect too much colour now.
The Ash tree still has leaves on its branches.
SONY DSC
Surprising that there are any leaves left. Looks as though its getting darker again.
SONY DSC
Not many leaves left up there.
SONY DSC
As we get closer to the Avenue of trees…….
SONY DSC
…..I can see it looks as though a lot of leaves have fallen off, but still few left as yet.
SONY DSC
Well next week we shall be in December, so I think future posts should reflect the leaf bearer rather than the few leaves that are left and probably in black and white.
Bye for now!

Festival of Leaves – Week 8

Hello,
Well here we are well over half way through November, so we had better see how the leaves are faring; actually there shouldn’t be that many to photograph by now.
SONY DSC
Well at least they are coming off the trees now by the looks of it, although…..
SONY DSC
…..still quite a few left on the trees. The sycamore leaf has almost given up the ghost and…..
SONY DSC
…..the Oak tree still has got plenty of leaves.
SONY DSC
A lot of them green, but some are turning brown.
SONY DSC
That’s odd, look at these little trees, they seem to be turning brown.
SONY DSC
They look like young conifers which means they aren’t supposed to loose their leaves like that; come to think of it I’ve seen them do that before so perhaps these are supposed to.
SONY DSC
We are coming towards the avenue of trees now and judging by these we are passing under now, the trees in the avenue should have turned by now.
SONY DSC
It doesn’t look like it, does it. Still plenty of green I see, although I think they have turned a bit.
SONY DSC
Oh yes, a lot more browns and yellows here now and quite a few more…..
SONY DSC
…..leaves on the ground.
I here the weather here is going to turn frosty and foggy by the weekend. That should bring them down and then winter can truly start. All these photos were taken this week on Monday 18 November.
Cheerio!

We need your help!

Festival of Leaves – Week 7

Hi,
Well, what is the state of the leaves now as we come to the end of the second week of November. Some of the trees I see are golden, while others are green and a few are bare.
SONY DSC
The leaves are definitely looking golden yellow, with some green here and there.
SONY DSC
But just here the trees are looking very colourful indeed.
SONY DSC
Everywhere I look is full of colour, even the sky.
SONY DSC
That tree up there is…..
SONY DSC
…..decidedly more yellow than last week.
SONY DSC
I see some Ash trees are still green.
SONY DSC
Just look at sky, blue one side and clouds the other.
SONY DSC
And just in case some of you are wondering what has happened to my avenue of trees.
SONY DSC
Well, not much actually and I do promise you I took that picture the same time as the others. I guess the trees must be more protected from the weather here.
See you next time, bye!

Cees Black&White Challenge: Transportation

Hi,
This week’s black and white challenge is Public Transport. Not a lot of public transport in Wincanton, but we do have buses at least we do at the moment. Let’s get up to the Memorial Hall where all the buses stop and where we catch them. When I say all, we have two main buses but let’s see what up there.
SONY DSC
There are two or three passengers waiting and that little bus over there is…..
SONY DSC
…..the bus run by South West Coaches. It goes to Shaftesbury via Mere and Gillingham. Their depot is here in Wincanton.
SONY DSC
Looks like they’ve got a depot in Portland, Dorset; didn’t know that. Ah, here comes the other bus.
SONY DSC
As you see this one is bigger and runs between here and Yeovil via Sherborne. Doesn’t look as if there is anybody on it.
It’s backing into the bay, better get out of the way.
SONY DSC
Here we are back on the pavement, should be safe here while it’s backing up.
SONY DSC
Let’s get to the other side where the passengers get on.
Looks as though there was at least one passenger on the bus.
SONY DSC
Its coming on to rain again.
SONY DSC
We’ll just see the last one on then we’ll…..
SONY DSC
…..go on home.
Bye!

Festival Of Leaves – Week 6

Hi there,
First of all I must apologise for not doing anything for Week 5, I went down to my avenue of trees and they didn’t look any different from the previous week and I ran out of inspiration, but yesterday it was a lovely sunny day so I tried again.
SONY DSC
As you can see the leaves are finally beginning to acknowledge that finally it is probably time to begin getting ready for Winter.
SONY DSC
Don’t the trees look lovely this afternoon. Mind you there are still some leaves who are not taking any notice of Autumn.
SONY DSC
Aren’t they going to get a surprise when the first frost appears. I do love the late afternoon sun at this time of year through the leaves.
SONY DSC
It looks as if some trees have acknowledged…..
SONY DSC
…..that winter is nigh upon us.
SONY DSC
We are getting close to the avenue of trees; I wonder if there is any change yet.
SONY DSC
Absolutely no change at all. I wonder if it will be like this come mid winter.
It’s beginning to get a little gloomy in here and the sun has disappeared behind those trees.
SONY DSC
I shall be back up here to see how long the leaves stay on those trees.
Bye for now!
