Bruton
After Castle Cary, described in “Where Is It”, I went to Bruton for this “Where Is It” competition. Bruton is is situated 4 or 5 miles north of Wincanton. There are quite a few famous schools including Kings and Sexeys. The church in Bruton is St Marys.
I got off the bus and walked up to the church gate…..
….and through up the path towards the door.
It was then that I noticed the beautiful church tower.
After that photo I took three more of this rather splendid church tower.
I then noticed a seat in the church yard and wondered whether I could include that in the final photograph.
After leaving the church I went to see what else I could take. The first thing I noticed was the river just across from the church….
and then…..
……a plaque on a wall, came to my attention, denoting the flooding of Bruton in 1917. That might be a bit to obvious.
I then decided that was enough photographs to play around with, especially as it was nearly time for me to catch the bus home. Having looked through all the photos of the church I decided upon this one.
Then I cropped the picture of the seat and made it sharper and brighter…..
……and added it to the church.
But then I didn’t like the way it had blocked out the top of the tower.
I then looked at the picture of the plaque and decided to crop out most of the wall and brighten up the lettering a bit….
…but that made a a bit too fuzzy. So in the end I only used a part of the plaque adding it to the picture and moving the seat down a bit.
That bit below the seat on the right hand side is the wall on which the plaque is attached, but what about that white bit at the bottom near the middle; that’s awkward.
So I added the swirling effect which hid the white bit and seemed appropriate near that sign of the flood.
You will notice that I also swirled out the name on the seat, in an attempt to make it harder to guess where it was, but in the end it was that seat that gave the game away. That surprised me as I thought the sign of the Flood Level would have been noticed straight away, even if I had cut a bit out of it.
Well thats two of the five photographs I submitted that night.
Next time I will go to Mere for the third photograph.
