There are a lot of things that light, some would say too many.
I remember a time when street lights used to go off at midnight and PC Plod walked the streets keeping us safe.
But now all these lights stay on all night. Knowing the cost of keeping alight one light bulb, I wonder at the cost of that lot.
Here’s one that not alight yet. Still it does look nice when everything is lighted up and shining in the dark.
Some lights are put up there to guide us on the long and difficult climb.
But of course, there is one light that is absolutely free and shining down upon us.
Goodnight.

Such a thoughtful post, Chris. One of the things that I love about our neighborhood is the lack of streetlights – when it is dark, you can still see the stars.

Thank you Lynn. You’re lucky, I’ve got street lights outside house and I often think it would be nice to go to sleep completely in the dark.

Light pollution. There are some pretty amazing lights in the sky that we drown out when we do that.
Nice photo essay.

The sky does look rather blue in that one, even though it was nearly dark at the time. It’s a setting on the camera that allows to take pictures at night without a tripod and the shutter clicks twice, therefore capturing what little light was left in the sky.

Lights that excites the eyes. The sky is the best constantly changing canvas providing lights that makes us appreciate nature in a more personal way.

The sky is cetainly constantly changing, sometimes too bright to see and other times to dull to see anything very much. Other times the light in the sky shows such contrast and beauty and then when it grows dark the sky shows et another kind of light; not very bright light admittedly but travellers and mariners have been guided by them for centuries. But nowadays we switch on our own lights to hide all the natural light provided for us in the night sky. Having said all that I would want to wander around the town in the pitch black.
